Randee Rue Thompson (Dempsey) VIEW PROFILE

Randee Rue Dempsey, 40, of Brownwood and formerly of Abilene, died Friday at a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Caps Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Joplin and the Rev. Andy Anderson officiating.  Graveside services will be in Elmwood Memorial Park with Dr. Ron Cook officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 U.S. Hwy. 277.

Mrs. Dempsey was born in Nocona and attended Butterfield and Jackson Elementaries and Madison Junior High and graduated in 1971 from Cooper High School.  She graduated from Hardin-Simmons University with a bachelor's degree in education, with a minor in music.  She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and sigma Alpha Iota music sorority at HSU.

She married Larry Don Dempsey in Abilene July 17, 1975.

She was a school teacher at Reagan Elementary and Cornerstone Christian School in Abilene.  She also taught at Woodland Heights School in Brownwood until December 1993.

She was a member and played the piano at Caps Baptist Church for 25 years.  She moved to Brownwood from Abilene in March 1992 and became a member of First Baptist Church, where she played in the Ladies Ensemble and Hand Bell Choir.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Don Dempsey of Brownwood; two sons, Clint Barrett Dempsey and Taylor O'Neal Dempsey, both of Brownwood; her parents, Bob and LaNell Thompson of Abilene; two sisters, Raynel Rush of DeSoto and Robin Lyons of Abilene; and seven nephews.

Memorials may be made to the music ministry of Caps Baptist Church, Route 3, Abilene 79606; or to Boys and Girls Hope Camp of Lueders.

Visitation was held from 2:30-4:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.  The family will be at 3533 Highland in Abilene.

Pallbearers are Monroe Leveretts, Charles Lightfoot, Larry Johnson, Wylie Glover, David Davis and Gary Garner.
